Dear 3rd Grade Parents & Guardians,
I can't believe we are heading into October already! We have settled in to our classroom and school routines and will be kicking the learning into high gear in October!
READING
We will have our Fundations Unit 1 Test tomorrow and will begin Unit 2 this week. Unit 2 is a 3 week unit focusing on suffixes and 1-1-1 words. In reading, we will be reading Amazing Grace in our reading textbook and completing learning activities on story structure.
This week, we should finish up our first read-aloud of 3rd grade, Third Grade Angels, by Jerry Spinelli. We will hopefully begin reading Roald Dahl's The Witches by the end of this week!
WRITING AND GRAMMAR
This week we are going to be working on adding details to sentences to make them better! We will learn to ask questions about our sentences to identify details we can add. We will finish up our introductory/review discussion of nouns and have a quick assessment on our understanding of nouns before moving on to our review of verbs.
MATH
In Math, we will finish up comparing and ordering numbers to the hundred thousands place and practice rounding numbers to the tens and hundreds places. In these first few weeks of math, we take as much time as needed to ensure our number sense and place value skills are as strong as possible before moving on. This sets us up to move at a brisk pace for the rest of the year as we tackle 3rd grade math standards.
RELIGION
Chapter 2 in Religion is entitled "Jesus Teaches Us About God's Love." Students will be introduced to Jesus' teachings about God's Love and the Kingdom of God. This is the beginning of building our understanding of how the Church began, grew, and became what it is today.
I'm looking forward to a great week in 3rd grade!
